Advanced Paper Processing Technologies in Plaster Board Production
In the plasterboard production process, one of the most critical stages—directly affecting product strength, dimensional stability, and surface quality—is the paper processing and feeding process. Paper feeding performed at speeds appropriate for the production line’s capacity, with the correct mechanical tension and millimeter-level alignment, maximizes the facility’s overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) values.
At IPS Makina, we offer a seamless, waste-free, and high-speed production infrastructure with our fully automated paper processing systems, designed to meet heavy industry standards.
Paper Processing Line Technical Equipment and Process Stages
Our system operates with an Industry 4.0-compatible automation infrastructure that minimizes operator intervention and consists of the following mechatronic stations:
1. Dual-Station (Tandem) Reel Unwinder Unit
Ensures the stable feeding of industrial-scale heavy paper reels into the system at high line speeds. Thanks to its dual-station (tandem) design, while one reel is actively fed into production, the other is kept ready for changeover at the standby station. The rigid steel frame design completely absorbs vibration at high speeds, preventing it from being transmitted to the system.
2. Automatic Paper Splicing Machine
It is a key component of continuous production. It ensures that the ends of the depleted reel and the new reel are joined within milliseconds via mechatronic synchronization, without reducing the line speed in any way. This technology eliminates operational downtime caused by reel changes and minimizes raw material waste on the production line.
3. Dynamic Tension Control System
It optimizes the mechanical tensile force on the paper during variations in production speed. Thanks to advanced load cell integration, tension data is read in real time and automatically regulated via pneumatic/servo braking systems. This effectively prevents tears, curling, and structural deformations in the paper.
4. Optical Centering and Web Alignment (Web Guiding)
It controls the lateral (right-left) movement of the paper entering the production line. Precision optical sensors and servo-driven guide rollers ensure that the paper remains centered on the production line at all times. By eliminating alignment errors prior to the pan mixer and forming unit, it guarantees production within standard tolerances.
5. Scoring and Forming Station
This stage determines the on-site installation standards for the final gypsum board. A precise scoring process is applied to the bottom paper surface, and special forming templates are used to create solid, tapered, or non-standard edge profiles. The paper’s wrapping of the gypsum slurry in accordance with standards is mechanically secured at this station.
Advantages of IPS Machinery Paper Processing Systems
Full Synchronization: Paper speed and tension parameters operate in sync with the pan mixer and forming belt speeds through real-time communication via a central PLC.
Operational Ergonomics: The reel loading and line feeding processes are supported by pneumatic systems, reducing operator workload and workplace safety risks.
High Wear Resistance: Forming tools and guide rollers, which are constantly exposed to friction, are manufactured from special wear-resistant alloy steel to ensure long-lasting use.
